In 1939, after performing with dance bands including those of Ben Pollack and Benny Goodman, Harry James formed his own band with an unknown vocalist named Frank Sinatra. The rest is history.

 

The young Fred Radke idolized Harry James, and toured with him as the orchestra’s lead trumpet player. He has since performed with Marlene Dietrich, Burt Bacharach, Johnny Mathis, Phil Harris, Jack Jones, Connie Stevens, Pat Boone, Ella Fitzgerald, Mel Torme, Vic Damone and countless other talented stars.

This concert is to be an evening of tunes that have been audience favorites during the 50 year career of conductor Don Wilcox. The variety of musical styles and ethnic diversity will feature guest artists including the talented soloist Karen Fenne in her farewell performance. An old American gospel hymn, an English band classic, and a couple of great marches, are just a few of the surprises that await.

The Chenille Sisters performances are a blending of three uniquely gifted souls into a musical phenomenon that’s more poignant, funny and entertaining than any single performer anywhere, and oh, those harmonies.

 

The union of Connie Huber, Cheryl Dawdy and Grace Morand makes The Chenille Sisters a bona fide force of nature. Since 1985 they have criss-crossed the map, amassing thousands of fans young and old. Hang on for the ride and enjoy.

Harry Goldson began his musical career as a teenager in Chicago playing with many early jazz legends including Claude Thornhill, Chuck Foster, Del Courtney, Jan Garber and Jess Stacey. He soon became one of the top reedmen in the country.

 

This concert features theme songs of the Big Bands from the past and will include many of the “standards” that made them famous. The Big Band consists of many members of the Northport Community Band, conducted by Don Wilcox, plus other fine area musicians.

Enjoy an on-site live recording session of a radio show that will be broadcast over Interlochen Public Radio (WIAA) shortly after its conclusion on our auditorium stage. Featuring bluegrass duo Don Julin & Billy Strings who will perform both before and after the taping, the show includes house band Sour Mash, short sketches by the Roundup Repertory Company, a snack for the audience provided by a local vendor, and other segments to delight and amaze.

 

Think Hee Haw meets Prairie Home Companion and they go out for a drink with Roy Rogers. This may be the start of a regular offering at the NCAC so your comments are appreciated.

Fiddler on the Roof comes to Northport fifty years after its Broadway opening on September 22, 1964. This fully staged production will include over forty cast members, elaborate scenery, and a full pit orchestra. The experience is enhanced by a professional director, choreographer, and musical conductor.
The story, based on a book by Joseph Stein, centers on Tevye and his three daughters and the struggle to protect time honored and cherished traditions in a changing world. Shed a tear over “Sunrise, Sunset” or laugh to “If I were a Rich Man.” You will be moved by this emotional and brilliantly presented musical.

The untimely death of John Denver in 1995 was felt the world over. CBS television responded with a tribute by producing a movie titled “Take Me Home: the John Denver Story.” Jim Curry was selected as the “voice” of John Denver.

 

Curry’s tribute to John Denver is the only one to headline in Las Vegas and has been celebrated around the world. His natural voice captures the essence of John Denver. Performed against a backdrop of multi-media wild life photos and videos, this show truly fills up your senses.

When John Philip Sousa was touring the United States and Europe he performed a variety of music that had something for everyone. This is “show time” the old fashioned way.
Colonel John R. Bourgeois is the retired conductor of the United State Marine Band in Washington DC, best known as the “President’s Own” because it plays for the ceremonial events in the White House. Colonel Bourgeois has played for nine presidents from Eisenhower through Clinton. Join us for this blockbuster – a wonderful way to end the summer.

2014 Season Tickets

Buy a Season Ticket for all performances with reserved seating in your favorite seat. Available until June 1, 2014.

Patrons may choose any 6 different concerts (or more) and receive a 10% discount on the total.

 

Buy Individual Tickets for adults (check prices for each event). Student tickets (through grade 12) are just $5 for each event.

To order your Season Tickets, call our office at 231.386.5001, Monday through Friday, 10 am to 2 pm.  Plus, we can hold your tickets for you at the NCAC and you can pick them up in our lobby.  There’s no last minute “Where did I put those tickets?” search or worse yet, forgetting them altogether!
