This exciting program began two years ago with the Rodgers & Hammerstein concert and was followed by the thrilling Gershwin show last year. We have a show this year that will likely top them all – An Evening with Irving Berlin. To quote George Gershwin, “I frankly believe that Irving Berlin is the greatest songwriter that has ever lived.” Jerome kern concluded that “Irving Berlin has no place in American music – he is American music.” During his career, he wrote over an estimated 1,500 songs...including old favorites such as Easter Parade, White Christmas, There’s No Business Like Show Business and the song made famous by Kate Smith, God Bless America. This particular concert has been an early “sell-out” the last two years and this will certainly follow that pattern. The Village Voices and Northport Community Band will be at their best for their opening performances of 2013. Get your tickets early.

Harry Goldson and his clarinet & saxophone are almost household words in Michigan. Harry’s musical career began when he was a teenager in Chicago. He was regarded as one of the top reedmen in the country and played with the likes of Claude Thornhill, Jan Garber and many others. Military service during the Korean War and a very successful non-music career in finance were part of Harry’s life after military service. Harry says that music now is more fun than ever. He plays what he wants and the way he thinks it should sound. He has amassed a group of outstanding musicians that will certainly do it “Harry’s way.” This concert will probably be the beginning of a tradition in our NCAC future productions. This concert will definitely be the start of something BIG.
